Who needs Ladurée or Pierre Hermé? Transport yourself back to Paris with Delysées Luxury Dessert. Located on King West Street, this cute store offers authentic French pastries, tarts, eclairs, sandwiches, and macarons. With tons of seating and nice minimalistic decor, Delysées Luxury Dessert is a great place to sit and enjoy a coffee with your sweets.
Once you enter into their bijou store, you are greeted by a colourful array of macarons and éclairs. From my experience, choosing one can be a challenge since your mouth gets more and more watery as you scan the display. Thankfully, you re not limited to one as there is an option to get five éclairs for $22. There is also the option of buying 6, 10, or 20 macarons for $14, $23.50 and $47 respectively. All are beautifully packaged in a box to take home or give away!
Mr. Hermé, a Pierre Hermé pastry chef, once said, “A great macaron is like a great suit: there’s Chanel and then there’s Zara. There will always be a market for the luxury macaron.” The right amount of depth, sweetness, and crispiness of a macaron can be likened to wearing a silk evening gown or a luxury tailored suit, but at a much cheaper cost.
What I Tried
I decided to get an éclair at Delysées Luxury Dessert, due to the fact that I have yet to have a really good éclair in Toronto. I was recommended to try the “Gold” Gianduja (gold coated) éclair or the Hazelnut Prailine – they are the bestsellers. As a result, I sat down with a “Gold” Gianduja in hand.
Verdict
Mr. Hermé’s words were the perfect description for Delysées Luxury Dessert’ éclair, too. It was evenly tubular, crisp on the outside, heavy with filling, and uniformly glazed. It was truly an experience that I would highly recommend and can’t wait to come back to try more. A tip for the “Gold” Gianduja is to make sure to check your lips for any gold.
Unlike some macaron shops, Delysées Luxury Dessert does not have macaron ice creams. However, they do offer customized macaron towers for your special occasions. Being one of the best éclairs in Toronto, I can promise that you won’t be missing Ladurée or Pierre Hermé.
