Being a huge fan of matcha, I eagerly added Chalait, one of New York’s best matcha cafes to my itinerary. Located in the West Village close to Washington Square Park and best known for its green tea drinks, Chalait is a quaint cafe with a variety of beverage and food options from lattes to sandwiches,. The first things I noticed was the minimalistic decor and use of chalk art!
Prior to making our way to the cafe, we enjoyed a bike ride around Central Park. The hot weather and physical exercise led to a craving for something cold and refreshing. Therefore, we chose to indulge in an iced matcha latte. It was a great choice! Chalait prides itself on sourcing its matcha from the Uji, one of the most well-known tea growing regions of Japan. I would highly recommend it. Furthermore, you can buy matcha in tins to make your own matcha-infused drinks and baked items.
Though I didn’t personally try it, my friend also highly recommended the different toasts served with avocado. If you try it, please let me know how it is! Whether for a light snack (and matcha drink) or a great atmosphere for studying, Chalait is the place to go.
